The reason that John Cena took no bumps in his tag match at Super Show-Down revealed

Arguably the most polarising figure in the company's history, John Cena returned to the ring for the first time since June at Super Show-Down yesterday.

It was four months ago when Cena popped up at a Shanghai house show, which is where he debuted his new 'Sixth Move of Doom' - the lightning fist.

Before that, he took on Triple H at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, and he hasn't been on regular WWE television since the Raw before WrestleMania in April.

So where has Cena been exactly?

Well, the leader of the Cenation has been residing in China for the last six months, where he has been filming 'Project X-traction', a movie that will include legendary star Jackie Chan.

Cena has been documenting his lifestyle change in a series of video blogs on YouTube, and revealed he would return to the Far East for the rest of 2018 following his appearance in Melbourne.

His departure from television means that his tag partner from last night - Bobby Lashley - has had to carry the feud for the team all by himself, against Kevin Owens and Elias.

And Lashley took all the bumps in the bout, which eventually ended up with Cena getting the hot tag, hitting Elias with his five signature moves, and then hit the Drifter with the punch that went viral a few months ago - for being so ridiculous.

So why was Cena only involved in the match for one minute, and why did he not take any bumps you may ask?

Apparently filming for Project X-traction still hasn't been completed yet, and WWE assured the production company that their film wouldn't be delayed, therefore they couldn't risk seeing Cena get injured.

As WWE fans all know, it takes just one botched move to hurt someone, and it was better to be safe than sorry when it comes to Cena's long-term future both in and out of the company.

It does beg the question though that what was the point of letting him appear at all, especially when his new move seems like such an obvious troll - but Cena's always said he loves the WWE, and he gave another emotional speech following the match saying he 'doesn't know what the future holds'.
