Paige and Carmella have replied to a WWE fan on Twitter for comments on 'Womens Evolution'

If there's one thing that WWE have changed in recent years, it's the complete shift in direction of female wrestlers in the company.

Once an afterthought on the main roster and pay-per-views, the current batch of superstars have created history - competing in main events, Charlotte and Sasha Banks taking part in the first-ever women's Hell in a Cell match, and this past January saw the first ever women's Royal Rumble match take place.

There can't be much argument to the claim that there's never been a better time to be a female superstar in WWE than right now.

So when an opinion piece made its way online about the state of the current 'womens revolution' within the WWE, it caused major controversy.

The article claimed that the Bella Twins should not be in the WWE, Alexa Bliss shouldn't be 'wasted' on Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, and a bout between Lita and Mickie James - with 10 Championships between them - should be at the bottom of the card.

Some pretty scathing opinions there, and it's drawn criticism from a section of the WWE Universe, and caught the attention of some superstars too.

They include SmackDown Live General Manager Paige, who won the Divas Championship on her main roster debut in 2014, even though she was portrayed as the 'anti-diva'.

Paige responded to the article by saying: "You do realize both these ladies were the OG ladies to help kickstart the #givedivasachance trend? I know because i was part of it. They deserve to be apart of everything and more, they are the one of the leaders of the movement. Sometimes matches all wont be 'crisp'."

"But it happens with everyone," Paige continued. "Crappy article. Not just for them but for the 'divas' you described that shouldn’t be apart of it, is an unfair statement. Without the divas, there wouldn’t be superstars. Thanks to all the ladies that paved the way before us."

And former SmackDown Women's Champion Carmella followed suit by tweeting: "This is an embarrassing article. Every single woman from the past and current roster have made women's wrestling what it is. EVERYONE is deserving. Enough of the negativity around the "diva" moniker."

Talk about dropping a truth bomb.

With 5,000 and 6,600 likes respectively, it's fair to say both tweets have well-and-truly gone viral.

In regards to the articles points - it's very unfair to criticise the likes of Mickie James and the Bellas - Nikki in-particular, who's worked pretty hard to improve her game.

Let's hope the women can help keep quiet the obvious haters when Evolution rolls around on October 28.
