Smackdown superstar shocks fans with surprise NXT live event appearance to face Ricochet

If you're a fan of top-quality in-ring action, NXT is definitely your brand.

With a mixture of up-and-coming talents and experienced former independent stars, the show has grown from a small entity to a 'third brand' of WWE.

With such a deep talent pool to choose from, it's no surprise the product is so highly-rated, and the man behind the excitement is Triple H, who is the whole brain-child behind NXT.

Many of the talented superstars on the roster end up being promoted to either Raw or Smackdown in their careers, the likes of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor and Samoa Joe were all on NXT at some point of their careers.

But sometimes main roster superstars will 'drop' to the so-called developmental brand for opportunities they don't get on the main roster.

Tyson Kidd did this throughout 2013 and 2014, re-inventing himself and eventually going on to win the WWE Tag Team Championships with Cesaro back on the main roster.

Tyler Breeze has also been lobbying for a return to the brand, where his best days were had. Breeze was a big singles star in NXT, but despite being a decent-enough comedy act with Fandango on the main roster, it hasn't really worked out as well as it could have for him.

Breeze eventually started making appearances at NXT live events at the start of 2018, and another main roster superstar made a similar move during a show in Buffalo - Luke Harper.

Now known as just 'Harper' on Smackdown, the former Wyatt Family member captured the Smackdown Tag Team titles with Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 34, but the pair dropped the belts to The New Day just a few weeks ago, after Rowan suffered a legitimate injury.

Nevertheless fans were shocked when NXT North American Champion Ricochet's challenge at the event was answered by Harper, which attending fans absolutely loved, as WWE's video below shows.

Harper has produced some killer singles matches during his main roster run, including a great Ladder match against Dolph Ziggler at the 2014 Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view.

So it's absolutely no surprise to read that the attending fans loved the bout, which Ricochet won with a Shooting Star Press.

This may turn into a regular thing for Harper whilst his partner is on the shelf for at least the next four months, but it's hard to argue that a singles run on Smackdown would be greatly appreciated.
