WWE are set to make a U-turn on the direction of a popular SmackDown Live star

GiveMeSport | Updated: 2018-08-31 19:50:13

It's almost been two weeks since SummerSlam took place, but SmackDown and RAW are still feeling the fallout from Brooklyn's event.

A number of big storylines are being built - with superstars like Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles all involved.

THE FALLOUT

On RAW, The Shield have made their return to support the new Universal Champion - who's expected to enter a massive feud with Drew McIntyre after Hell in a Cell.

That may be WWE's top story coming out of the summer, but something very interesting is also brewing - with Owens.

The star claimed to have had enough on Monday night and he announced that he's quit the WWE - so what the company do with him upon his return will certainly be exciting.

SMACKDOWN STORIES

It's not just RAW that have the major builds - with Samoa Joe and AJ Styles currently locked in a highly personal feud over the WWE Championship.

But perhaps SmackDown's biggest story involves Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.

At SummerSlam, it was Charlotte who just outlasted her 'best friend' in a triple threat match to claim Carmella's SD Live Women's title.

Following the bout, instead of congratulating her friend, Becky turned heel, beating down the new champion.

THE WRONG REACTION?

The segment got one of the biggest reactions of the whole event - but as we've seen all too often, the crowd responded completely opposite to how WWE would have wanted.

Rather than booing Becky for her betrayal, the crowd absolutely loved it and it's clear they're still 100% behind her, whatever she does.

Even on this week's SmackDown, she beatdown Flair again - and recieved another positive reaction.

That's obviously not what WWE want - but there's very little they can do about it. And now, according to the latest reports, they've decided to fix the situation.

A CHANGE OF DIRECTION

Ringside News report that their sources inside WWE have indicated that Lynch's backstage direction has changed - and she'll now be written in a 'tweener' role.

This means she's not going to be a full 'face' or a 'heel', but instead will be good at times and bad at others - similar to how Stone Cold Steve Austin was during his famous run.

It will certainly be interesting to see how WWE explore Becky's character this way - and hopefully, it will end with Vince McMahon putting the title on her again.
