Steelers now listening to trade offers for Le'Veon Bell | Updated: 2018-09-24 02:00:15

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now listening to trade offers for running back Le'Veon Bell, league sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Just two weeks ago, sources said that the team did not plan to trade Bell or rescind his franchise tag. Following a tie with the lowly Browns and a dismantling by the Chiefs, Pittsburgh appears to have changed its tune.

Bell has been looking for a new contract and has not reported to the team. Multiple sources around the league had said weeks ago that Bell was expected to join the Steelers sometime before the end of September. Bell has remained in Florida, training and absorbing fines of $853,000 for each game that he misses.

Bell's agent has suggested that the running back is willing to stay away from the team for a long time. Bell and the Steelers failed to reach a long-term contract in each of the past two summers, and the running back isn't happy about playing on the franchise tag.

If Bell is traded, the franchise tag goes with him to his new team. He won't be able to negotiate a long-term contract until next March when the new league year begins as the deadline for franchised players to reach long-term contracts passed in July.
