Channing Frye warns young Lakers of what to expect playing alongside LeBron James

With the addition of LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers will immediately go from a young, up and coming team to playoff contenders.

The expectation levels in L.A. have increased with the arrival of the league's best player and it'll put pressure on the entire roster to live up to them.

The minimum requirement will be to end the franchise's five-year postseason drought and the upcoming campaign could be a real eye-opener for the youngsters on the Lakers roster.

New experience

There's no doubt that in Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart, they have a hugely talented young core at their disposal.

But playing alongside James will put a different level of scrutiny on them and it'll be interesting to see how they react to it.

Veteran Channing Frye - who won a championship with LeBron in Cleveland and spent the second half of last season with the Lakers - has given his former young teammates some advice on what to expect.

"I think the thing they’re going to come to and I think a lot of guys are going to have to deal with this. There’s who you expect to be and then who you are when you play with LeBron," he said in an interview with Erik García Gundersen of LeBron Wire.

"It’s two different things. I don’t know if they truly understand what it’s like to play with him because there is no room for mistakes. Because in all actuality, he could do it himself.

"He could lead a team to 40 wins by himself. I think for all of them they’re going to have to have a reality check, not only them but the people around them.

"There’s going to say, not a growing period, but a humility."

The media attention around the Purple and Gold next year will be huge and the interest in the team was illustrated by the fact that they'll have the most nationally televised games (43).

Frye has warned the youngsters to be ready for a different type of focus and to be under the microscope.

"Get ready for all that attention that comes with LeBron and all the responsibility," he said.

"Get ready to try and deal with getting popular, getting invited to everything. If you have one million followers get ready to have two.

"If you have two get ready to have four. Get ready to get invited to literally everything in LA because you’re now the hottest ticket in LA. Find that medium."

On the court, it seems they're ready to learn from the King as Ingram, Kuzma and Hart have been working out with him recently.

Lakers fans are eagerly anticipating the new campaign and there's real intrigue around the league in what they can achieve with the roster they've put in place.
