Bucks expect Brook Lopez and Ersan Ilyasova to perfectly fit coach Budenholzer's style

The Milwaukee Bucks have had an active offseason with key personnel changes both on and off the floor.

Their biggest move saw them hire Mike Budenholzer as their new head coach and this could prove to be a significant step.

Despite possessing real talent on their roster, the Bucks have failed to live up to their potential in recent years by not making a deep playoff run.

Budenholzer's arrival is expected to change that and the front office has looked to help him achieve that by making some solid acquisitions in free agency.

Experience and shooting

Milwaukee signed frontcourt duo Brook Lopez and Ersan Ilyasova and general manager Jon Horst believes they will perfectly with how their new coach wants to play.

Both veterans can space the floor and knock down threes, which is something they were seriously lacking last season.

"With Brook and Ersan, you have guys that have great size, that can shoot the three, not only effectively percentage wise but also attempt wise," he said.

"They compete on both ends of the floor and have high basketball IQ and hopefully, if we're right, I think what you'll see is guys that really fit the way that Bud wants to play and the way that we want to play in building the team around Giannis [Antetokounmpo]."

At 30 and 31 respectively, Lopez and Ilyasova will bring much-needed experience and leadership to the Bucks locker room having played in the league for many years.

Horst says it was important to add players that would fit with Antetokounmpo in terms of their skill set and fill a specific role.

"There's no doubt that those guys have experience. Those guys have won and played in multiple different systems and with different great players," he said.

"They know their roles, they're comfortable in their roles and it's really for us to have guys around Giannis that fit from a skill set perspective but also understand what their role is on our team and embrace that.

"These guys are going to do that."

Lopez already has high hopes for the team next year as he recently predicted that they can win the east.

The departure of LeBron James from the conference has raised the level of expectation for several teams and has opened up a huge opportunity.

“I think we’re very confident that we can, no question, win the East,” Lopez said in an interview with USA Today’s HoopsHype.

“I’m definitely happy to be in Milwaukee because I think we have a great opportunity to do something special as a team.”
