Billy Joe Saunders' five-word response to being denied licence to fight was just vulgar [Independent]

Billy Joe Saunders is set to be stripped of his WBO middleweight belt after being denied a licence to retain his title.

Saunders was due to fight American Demetrius Andrade on October 20 in Boston but the fight will not go ahead.

The British boxer failed a voluntary drugs test after testing positive for the banned substance oxilofrine.

And the boxing commission in Massachusetts have denied Saunders a licence to retain his title.

Saunders and his team spoke to the Massachusetts Athletic State Commission on Tuesday in an attempt to secure a licence.

But their attempts were denied and Andrade is now expected to face Walter Kautondokwa for the WBO middleweight title.

It’s a major blow for Saunders, who has successfully defended his belt three times in the past three years.

Saunders' vulgar response

The 29-year-old was on speaker phone with the Massachusetts board, and his response after being informed of their decision simply isn’t on.

Per the Independent, Saunders responded: “You can suck my pr*ck.”

It continues a pretty rough few weeks for the 26-0 boxer.

In August he tested positive for oxilofrine, a stimulant that is on the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association’s list of banned substances.

Saunders’ promoter, Frank Warren, said it was down to a nasal spray that the boxer used.

“Thank you to my fans who stick by me,” Saunders wrote on Twitter after the incident.

“I’m a clean athlete and gonna be around a long time. Thank you all, stay blessed.”

Then in September, Saunders was fined £100,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control after a video emerged in which he appeared to offer a woman drugs.

Police described the footage as “sickening”. while the BBBofC found Saunders guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute.

You have to wonder where Saunders goes from here.

He’s yet to fight in 2018 and will now lose his title.

It's about time he sorted himself out.
