Oleksandr Usyk's team have explained their smart reason for taking Tony Bellew fight

Anthony Joshua has the boxing world in the palm of his hands with heavyweight fighters left, right and centre coming out saying they want to fight him.

The hopes of Tyson Fury have suffered a blow with the stinging comments of Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn saying that he is not on their radar.

Oleksandr Usyk has his own plans for taking on the multiple world-champion and that involves fighting Tony Bellew at the Manchester Arena on November 10.

Despite not having the 'box office' factor that Joshua or Deontay Wilder has, Usyk has gone about his work in a very professional fashion, amassing a 15-0 record with 11 by knockout.

The 31-year-old, who had a long and distinguished amateur career which culminated in a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, currently holds all four belts in the cruiserweight division, becoming the first fighter in history to do so.

It is that reason why Usyk is the clear favourite to defeat the 35-year-old Bellew, who last fought against David Haye in May.

Sky Sports have documented Usyk's thoughts behind choosing Bellew.

"One reason we have agreed to fight Bellew is to get to Joshua.

"It is exactly part of the strategy and why we have this co-operation with Eddie Hearn.

"He has Tony, he has Anthony, he has Dillian Whyte and a couple more heavyweights.

"It's the best way, the shortest - not the easiest - way to fight Anthony."

It shapes as being a smart policy if it comes off, and Usyk has plenty of assets to give Joshua a good fight.

However, Bellew has made a career of being underestimated with the starkest example coming against Haye, but he showed the public that he can produce on the big stage.

Usyk has got a plan in place, but the old saying of taking one fight at a time is apt in this situation.
