The judges scorecards for Joshua v Povetkin have been revealed - fans are baffled

Anthony Joshua managed to defeat Alexander Povetkin on Saturday night but it’s fair to say it was not as convincing as he would have hoped.

Many expected Joshua to see the Russian off with ease. But it was Povetkin who started the better of the two fighters.

He even rocked Joshua late in the first round, hinting that an upset could well be on the cards.

With Joshua suffering from a nose injury, Povetkin continued to apply the pressure in the following rounds.

But the English fighter stood up in the face of a Povetkin barrage and he eventually began to dominate the fight himself.

The momentum swiftly changed and Joshua finally emerged victorious after stopping his opponent in the seventh round.

Povetkin deserves a lot of credit for his performance. He started the better of the two fighters but was eventually overcome by the Englishman.

Many thought he was even winning the fight on points going into the seventh round.

But the judges felt otherwise. Their scorecards have emerged prior to the seventh round and they make for surprising reading.

Per the Sun, all three judges had Joshua winning the fight easily before his stoppage in the seventh round.

Two judges had him winning 58-56, while the other had him leading the fight 59-55.

That does seem a little weird. The bout seemed a lot closer than what the judges made it out to be and boxing fans share that feeling.

Many couldn’t believe that Joshua was judged to be winning, with many thinking that Povetkin was in fact leading on points by the time of the stoppage.
